The 2015 Royal Queensland Wine Show has proved to be a major success for Houghton and Brookland Valley, awarded a staggering six trophies and seven gold medals between them, reaffirming the consistency of quality, hard work and attention to detail across the board for these brands.
The 2014 Houghton Bandit Shiraz has impressed the esteemed judging panel in its first show outing, collecting a total of three trophies; the Brisbane Club Best Shiraz of Show, the historic Stodart Trophy Best Young Red of Show and the coveted RNA Best Red of Show trophy.
These accolades highlight the Frankland River regions suitability to growing Shiraz, a style that has in more recent years become successful on the show circuit and is gaining broader consumer appeal, coupled with older vine maturity delivering to their potential.
The success didn’t stop there for Houghton with the 2013 Houghton Red Classic, one of Australia’s best known and trusted wines awarded the trophy for the Best Other Red Blend of Show.
Ross Pamment, Senior Winemaker and Manager at Houghton, is rapt with the solid results for Houghton and specifically Houghton Red Classic, ‘this is a fantastic outcome that recognises our commercial wines punch above their weight and is a great reflection of the hard work and attention to detail delivered in the winery.’
Brookland Valley’s red hot wine show success continued with the 2012 Brookland Valley Estate Cabernet Merlot picking up the Alan Cook MBE Trophy Best Bordeaux Blend of Show and Best Mature Red of Show Trophy.
The win reaffirms Brookland Valley’s winemaking philosophy around vineyard selection, regionality and minimal winemaker input. The award winning wine has dominated domestic and international wine shows collecting five trophies and nine gold medals. The ongoing success is a reflection of the suitability of the blend from Margaret River and an outstanding vintage.
‘Plaudits must go out to the winemaking and viticultural teams involved in making these wines, especially the crew at the Nannup Winery. The results are rewards for the hard work, persistence and quest for quality that goes into crafting these wines,’ added Ross.
Hardys joined Houghton and Brookland Valley on the list of trophy winners with the Hardys Rare Show Tawny awarded the Best Fortified Red of Show.
Since 1876, thousands of winemakers from across Australia have entered the esteemed Royal Queensland Wine Show, establishing itself as one of Australia’s oldest, most prestigious and highly contested wine shows.
