Earlier this month, it was announced that Accolade Wines are making a $40 million investment to set up a new glass bottling plant and packaging facilities at Berri winery. This investment is a further step forward in the strategy to expand into new markets and will better serve needs to support the growing business into Asia. Development on the new facility is expected to commence in early 2017 with an estimated construction time of 18 months to two years. Once complete, the new facility will employ about 40 people; have a bottling capacity of up to 8 million cases of wine annually and storage capacity of more than 22 million pallets of inventory.
The investment also supports South Australia’s Riverland region with a large portion of the industry seeing a downturn in recent years. The news was welcomed by the region’s state MP, Tim Whetstone. “The 40 jobs is a really good shot in the arm for the region. It is also Accolade’s commitment to the industry”, he said. As a result of the investment, once the facility is in operation, Accolade Wines and Treasury Wine Estates will cease the current bottling arrangement that was established in 2012.
