Flagstone head winemaker Gerhard Swart had another reason to celebrate over the festive period after picking up ‘Winemaker of the Year’ from South Africa’s biggest independent online and telesales wine club.

‘Wine Club of the Month’ receives entries from hundreds of wineries each month, from which the very best are selected and recommended to members following blind tastings by four panels of experts.

At the end of the year, wines and winemakers that performed strongest throughout the year are re-evaluated to determine a list of annual winners.

Boasting over 80,000 active members, receiving a monthly or annual award often translates into orders from both individual and commercial sources.

Gerhard’s excellent work in leading the South African winemaking team – as well as an outstanding performance by each of the Flagstone wines entered into the monthly runnings across 2018 – saw him crowned with the top individual prize.

Congratulations Gerhard!
