Accolade Wines has been named as winner of the Statewide Super Excellence in Exporting Award at the 2019 Business SA South Australian Exports Awards in Adelaide.
Hosted at an awards ceremony in Adelaide on October 18, the Business SA Export Awards recognise South Australian companies excelling in the international marketplace by selling and promoting their products and services. The Excellence in Exporting Award is a special award granted each year to a company that has made a significant international impact.
The judging panel granted the award to Accolade in recognition of its outstanding track record and long history of exporting South Australian wine globally. This heritage commenced with iconic South Australian brand Hardys, when Thomas Hardy made history in 1857 by shipping the first significant quantity of wine (286 litres) from Australia to the UK. From these humble beginnings Hardys is now the number one wine brand in the UK and Accolade exports to 140 countries worldwide.
In accepting the award, Sandy Mayo, Accolade’s Director of Marketing and Global Brands, thanked the judging panel for recognising Accolade’s excellence in exporting over a sustained period.
Ms Mayo continued “of course, no one succeeds in business by standing still. Accolade Wines has ambitious plans to expand our exports. South Australian brands, including Hardys, Grant Burge, St Hallett, Petaluma and Banrock Station, will be a key part of this.”
To support these ambitions, Accolade has completed a $40m expansion at the Berri Estates Winery which would increase its export capacity from the Riverland. The company has also built up its footprint in Asia with an eye to increasing exports to China and other markets.
This is the 57th year that Business SA has presented the South Australian Export Awards.
