Adelaide Hills winery Petaluma celebrates the annual vintage release of its prestigious Yellow Label range and Croser Late Disgorged Sparkling

Leading Adelaide Hills based winery Petaluma marks the annual vintage release of its Yellow Label wines on 21 October. Petaluma will unveil the new vintages from its flagship range featuring the 2019 Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay, 2018 B&V Vineyard Adelaide Hills Shiraz, 2015 Evans Vineyard Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot, 2020 Hanlin Hill Clare Valley Riesling and 2018 Coonawarra Merlot. As producer of Croser sparkling wines, Petaluma will also release the 2006 Croser Late Disgorged Piccadilly Valley, the most premium wine from Croser’s sparkling portfolio.

From its humble beginning in the Adelaide Hills in 1976, Petaluma’s sole objective has been to produce ultra-premium wines mindful of its distinguished site philosophy of growing the right varieties in the right wine region, earning an enviable status with Langton Classifications throughout its long history. The Yellow Label range is an exploration of this founding belief and an exquisite example of truly classic wine in both style and regionality, crafted exclusively from premium grapes grown in premium vineyards.

Senior Winemaker Mike Mudge explains, “With distinguished vineyard sites and meticulous attention to detail, Petaluma has developed a prestigious winemaking reputation over the past four decades. Every year these wines are our pride and joy and the 2020 Vintage Release is no exception. This year’s Yellow Label wines epitomise the style that Petaluma is known for by using only the finest fruit picked by hand to ensure optimum quality from the varied terrain.

“All wines are drinking beautifully now however they will reward those with the patience to carefully cellar and enjoy with generous bottle age. After a tough end to 2019 and navigating the uncertainties at the beginning of 2020, we are excited to release these highly anticipated wines to the world,” Mike concludes.

As the coolest viticultural region in South Australia, Piccadilly Valley in Adelaide Hills creates a modern style Chardonnay that is delicate in flavour with high natural acidity. Full of white and yellow stone fruits with a subtle cedar and spice oak complexity, the 2019 Petaluma Yellow Label Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay is ideal to pair with white meats and seafood. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 10 years.

The B&V vineyard in Mount Barker, Adelaide Hills, is planted on micaceous schist soils which are perfect for growing Shiraz. The 2018 Petaluma Yellow Label B&V Vineyard Adelaide Hills Shiraz displays red berry fruits layered in white pepper and spice, creating a ripe but elegantly structured wine perfect to enjoy now or, will age gracefully with five years to fifteen years of careful cellaring.

The Evans Vineyard in Coonawarra is named after one of Australia’s wine legends and the former chairman of Petaluma, the late Len Evans. The old Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines were planted in 1986 and are hand tendered growing on the famous Terra Rossa soil. The 2015 Evans Vineyard Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot is a classic example of a Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot blend that is drinking well now but a wine that age elegantly for decades to come.

In addition, this year’s Annual Vintage Release includes; the Yellow Label 2020 Hanlin Hill Clare Valley Riesling, the 2018 Coonawarra Merlot, and the 2006 Croser Late Disgorged Piccadilly Valley – an exceptional wine handcrafted using the traditional method.

The Petaluma Yellow Label Annual Vintage Release wines will be available from 21 October 2020 in, Dan Murphy’s, Vintage Cellars and fine wine independent retailers nationwide. The range is also available via the Petaluma Online Store at Petaluma.com.au
